Technical Notes:
  • This is a 4-wire heated oxygen sensor, manufactured to General Motors' original equipment standards. The four wires serve two independent circuits — two for the internal heater and two for the sensor signal and ground.
  • The built-in heating element brings the ceramic sensing tip up to operating temperature quickly after a cold start, enabling the ECU to enter closed-loop fuel control sooner and reduce cold-start emissions.
  • The sensor measures oxygen content in exhaust gases. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) uses this input to adjust the air/fuel ratio to near the optimal value of 14.7:1. At this ratio, engine performance, emissions, and fuel economy are all optimized.
  • This sensor is a direct-fit component featuring a GM-specific triangular male connector and pre-terminated wiring, eliminating the need for cutting or splicing during installation.
  • As an upstream (pre-catalyst) sensor, it is installed before the catalytic converter (Position 1) and serves as the primary regulating probe for air-fuel mixture control.
  • The threads are factory pre-greased with anti-seize compound to prevent seizing in the exhaust bung.
